13+ years ago when I had my son I decided to name him Andrew and call him Drew. Until he went to kindergarten he was called Drew by just about everyone. When he started school he informed us that he wanted to be called Andrew. I was fine with that but we went back and forth at home between Andrew and Drew. Fast forward to 7th grade and suddenly kids are calling my son "Andy!" I'm like who is this Andy kid?
My laid back son tried to correct them but eventually gave up and so a few kids called him Andy and at home he was still either Andrew or Drew. I was told I had to just learn to live with it - ugh.
Now it is the beginning of 8th grade, football practice is going strong and what do I hear the coaches calling him? Drew! Not Andy but Drew! Yeah! So he tells me that he is asking his teachers to call him Drew also. He confides in me that only 3 boys call him Andy and he really doesn't like being called that. He is letting people know they can call him Andrew or Drew. Football seems to be bringing out his assertive side.
Whew - glad the Andy thing is behind us. Now I just need to start taking football pictures to post on here. I'm going to try to write a little more now that football is here again! Go Warriors!
